Anyone who has attended Mainland High School as a
student, taught here remember the beautiful
mosaic tile murals that were on the walls of the Media Center on the Clyde
Morris Blvd. campus. These four murals made up eight panels that depicted the
story of communications and information through the ages.
*
Each panel measured roughly 4' X 14' and
were made up
of approximately 20,000 ceramic tiles. The panels were created and rendered from 1965
through 1969 by various students in the arts classes and clubs here at Mainland during
those years.
*
Anyone who worked on these murals and knows more
about their construction is encouraged to contact the Media Center with your background
information. It was not possible to save the murals intact. However we have
all of the tiles bagged in square foot portions and it is our hope to one
day have our art classes reassemble them in the cafeteria area of the new
school.
